How Alienstech handles it
Work usually falls into three parts.
Getting there. Migration from an existing mail system, on premises Exchange or another provider, planned so mail keeps flowing during the move and nothing is lost. DNS records for mail delivery and authentication are set correctly rather than approximately.
Making it safe. Multifactor authentication on every account, conditional access where it is warranted, admin accounts separated from daily accounts, mailbox auditing turned on, external forwarding restricted, and retention set so deleted files can come back.
Keeping it tidy. Licenses reviewed against people who actually work there, a documented process for staff joining and leaving, a sensible file structure in SharePoint and Teams, and shared mailboxes used where a full license is not needed.
